Why is CUET Required?

Until now, each central university had its own admissions process for UG and PG programmes. To unify this process, the Education Ministry has introduced CUET as a common exam for admissions to all of India's central universities. The other benefits of the CUET are as follows:

  • Every student aspires to be admitted to their dream university. However, due to the enormous weightage of the 12th grade, not every student had an equal opportunity to apply to their dream university. The 12th cut-off based exams prioritised the marks earned in the 12th grade. With the introduction of the CUET, every student now has a fair chance to perform well in this common entrance exam and gain admission to the best university possible.

  • Students had little clarity about their ranks in previous entrance admission procedures. For example, due to 12th merit-based admissions, DU did not reveal student ranks. With the introduction of CUET, it is expected that students will no longer be in the dark about their ranks and the colleges to which they will be admitted.

  • So far, each university has had its own set of UG admission processes, which may or may not be fair to each college's reputation. While some colleges used a cut-off system, others used entrance exams to determine admissions. Some universities soared to prominence as a result of this system, while others languished in obscurity. We hope that by using a common entrance exam, such disparities will be reduced and that each university will have a fair chance of admitting students.

CUET Exam Pattern

The CUET entrance exam will be conducted online as a Computer Based Test (CBT). The exam will last 2 hours or 120 minutes and will include 100 multiple-choice questions. Each correct attempt will earn the candidate one point, while each incorrect attempt will cost the candidate 0.25 points (negative marking). The other details of the exam are as follows:
