ICC Full Form in Cricket

ICC is the term which you have heard popularly in the game of cricket. The question is “What is the full form of ICC?” so, the ICC’s full form in cricket is the - International Cricket Council. International Cricket Council is the global governing body for cricket. ICC represents presently 104 members. ICC full form or ICC long form is the International Cricket Council. This elongated term, that is the ICC full form in Cricket is only restricted in the field of cricket, there might be different full forms of ICC based on their specific base, like in law ICC can be elongated as International Criminal Court. After answering the question “What is the full form of ICC?” we should further delve into the acronym, ICC. 

This council is an international governing body for cricket. The governing body was established in the year 1909 as the Imperial Cricket Conference, the countries which earlier acted as the representatives were Australia, England, and South Africa. In the year 1965, Imperial Cricket Conference was renamed as International Cricket Conference, and then further it was renamed International Cricket Council (ICC) in the year 1989. The headquarters of ICC is in Dubai, UAE. Greg Barclay is the current chairman as of 24 November 2020.  

International Cricket Council has 105 member nations. Some of the nations are full members, some are associate members while some others are affiliate members. The nations that are full members of ICC include India, New Zealand, England, Australia, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, South Africa, West Indies, and Zimbabwe.


Functions of ICC

  • ICC is organizing major cricket tournaments like the Cricket World Cup, the ICC T20 World Cup, the ICC champions' trophy, etc.

  • The council also appoints umpires for international T20, One Day, and test matches. There are three types of umpires in the umpires' panel of ICC; Elite, International, and Associates.

  • The ICC sets the cricket standards of discipline for international matches through the code of conduct. Cricket also takes action against illegal practices in the cricket matches like match-fixing, doping, etc. The council works with Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU) to curb down these illegal practices.

  • It checks and monitors the conditions for playing cricket, the bowling action review, decision review system (abbreviated as DRS), and other rules for playing the game of cricket. 

  • ICC aspires to promote the game by organizing exciting global events, expanding the reach of this game, and also by building a long-term successful commercial partnership with ICC.

While the rule or any decision of ICC may not be applied to any domestic cricket competitions which are being held in the ICC's member countries, ICC cannot immediately change the rules of cricket. This changing of the authority of the rule is with the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC). They can change the rule of cricket. However, MCC must consult the ICC before changing any rules. Besides this, ICC has also introduced the ICC Awards to honour the best international cricket players based on their performance over the last 12 months. 


ICC Player Rankings

ICC Player Rankings is the tabular format of the ranks. This table represents the performances of every international cricket player. ICC Players Ranking is based on a point-based system, this involves a series of calculations to rank the players on a scale ranging from 0 to 1000 points. The points of the player’s increases if the individual performance level is improving as compared to his past performance or compared to his statistics records and vice versa. The value of the player is based on his performance in a match which is being calculated through an algorithm based on various factors present in a match.


Income Sources of ICC

The main sources of income of ICC are earned from the major cricket tournaments which are organized by ICC. Among the major cricket tournaments are Cricket World Cup. The income earned by ICC is divided among the member states. The council has earned over US$ 1.6 billion between the years 2007 and 2015 through sponsorship and via the television rights of the Cricket World Cup. The other tournaments which drive good income for ICC are ICC Champions Trophy, ICC World Cup Twenty20.
