MTNL Full Form - The Mahanagar Telephone Nigam is known to be established on the date April 1, the year 1986 by the Government of India to improve the quality of telecom services, expand the telecom network, introduce new services, and generate revenue for the telecom development needs of India's two major cities, Delhi and Mumbai.

Over the last 23 years, the company has grown quickly to become India's leading and one of Asia's largest telecom operating companies. Aside from a solid financial foundation, MTNL had 8.06 million customers as of March 31, 2009.

Mahanagar Telephone Mauritius Limited (MTML)

MTML, a wholly-owned subsidiary of MTNL, was established as a private domestic company in Mauritius in November 2003. At the time of incorporation, the company had an authorised capital of 600 million MUR and a paid-up capital of 300 million. In 2009, the authorised capital was increased to MUR 1500 million. The company's paid-up capital has been increased from INR 854.12 million to INR 1052 million. The company obtained a licence from the ICTA (Mauritius' telecom regulatory body) to provide Fixed Wireless Services, Mobile Services, International Long Distance Services, and Internet Services.

In Port Louis, a 110K capacity CDMA Technology switch (CDMA 1x and EVDO) has been installed. To meet the needs of customers, ten customer care services are available throughout the island, as well as one call centre. The company offers fixed, mobile, international long distance, and internet services to Mauritius residents at the most competitive rates. MTNL has invested approximately $ 20 million in MTML. MTML is also increasing the capacity of the core network to 310K lines, while also implementing a GSM network in Mauritius with a capacity of 200K lines as well as replacing the 110K core capacity of the CDMA 1XEVDO network. International roaming for the MTML Mauritius GSM network is being implemented.
