T.V.S Iyengar started this company originally as T.V. Sundram Iyengar and Sons Limited, in the year 1911. The company operated a bus service in the city of Madurai, Chennai. This great person initially operated a lot number of buses and lorries under the name of Southern Roadways Limited. In later years, the name TVS Motor Company Limited was registered in the year 1978 for the production and sale of Motorcycles, three-wheelers, and scooters in India.

In the year 1980, TVS 50 was India's first two-seater moped that rolled out of the factory at Hosur in Tamil Nadu. This model was the technical collaboration with the Japanese auto giant named ‘Suzuki Ltd.’ thereby it resulted in the joint-venture between the Sundaram Clayton Ltd and Suzuki Motor Corporation, in 1987. After this, the commercial production of motorcycles began from the year 1989.

TVS and Suzuki shared a 1-year-long collaboration that was aimed at technology transfer for the design and the manufacture of two-wheelers this was specifically aimed at the Indian market. Re-christened as TVS-Suzuki, this company brought out many different models namely-

Earlier in 2015, TVS Racing was the first Indian factory team to take part in the darker Rally which was the deadliest rally ever. Recent news is, on 17th April 2020, TVS Motor Company acquired Norton Motorcycle Company in an all-cash deal. They will continue the production of motorcycles at Donnington Park using the company’s same staff.
