Wifi Uses
The uses of wifi are as follows:
Internet - Wifi is used to provide internet access and local area networks that are within the range of wifi and routers are connected. Wifi is used at homes, offices and public places to access the internet. To set up a wifi device, you need a wifi router or a modem. These are known as access points. Once the wifi network is accessible, modern devices can connect with them and can use the internet or local area network.
City-wide uses - Around the year 2000, many cities around the world planned to build a wifi enabled city. The technology used for this was the cable - less technology. In places where cable internet is not available, the connection can be provided via access points and receivers. The receiver connects to the access point with a specified channel and establishes the connectivity. It also reduces the dependency of fibre or cable cut which causes an interruption in the connection. In India, Mysore or Mysuru became the first wifi enabled city in the year 2004. The whole city of Mysore and a few nearby villages are covered with wifi hotspots by a company called WifiyNet.
