Yahoo (styled as Yahoo!) is an American Internet service provider. Its headquarters is based in Sunnyvale, California, and is owned by Verizon media. The word “ Yahoo” full form in English is “Yet Another Hierarchically Organized Oracle”. “Yet Another Hierarchical Officious Oracle” is also Yahoo full form name. 

As suggested by Yahoo full form, it is a search engine, web portal, yahoo search, and other related services such as Yahoo! Mail, Yahoo! News, Yahoo! Finance, Yahoo! Sports, and its advertising platform, Verizon Media Native.

Yahoo was founded by David Filo and Jerry Young in January 1994 and was one of the leaders of the early Internet era in the 1900s. In 2000, it was one of the world’s leading Internet service providers. Usage turned down lately as it lost market share to Google.

Yahoo! Inc History

Two Stanford University graduate students Yang and Filo established the website named Jerry and David’s guide to the World Wide Web in January 1994. This website was a human-created web directory arranged in a hierarchy, in contrast to a searchable index of web pages. 

In March 1994, a new name “ Yahoo” was given to Jerry and David’s guide to the World Wide Web and this became famous as Yahoo! Directory. 

On January 18, 1995, the domain Yahoo.Com was registered. The renowned website  “Yahoo” full form is “Yet Another Hierarchically Organized Oracle” or “Yet Another Hierarchical Officious Oracle”.  

The term “Hierarchically” in Yahoo's full form name describes how the Yahoo database was arranged in layers of subcategories. The term “oracle” refers to "source of wisdom and truth” and the last term “ officious” refers to the many office workers who would use the Yahoo database while surfing from home.

Yahoo! was established on March 2, 1995. A search engine function known as “Yahoo! Search” was introduced in 1995. This enables users to look for Yahoo! Directory. Yahoo soon became the first renowned online directory and search engine on the World Wide Web.

Yahoo Logo

The first Yahoo! Logo was launched upon the foundation of the company in 1995. The logo includes the “Yahoo '' wordmark which is black coloured and is using the font “ Times New Roman”, but it was changed later on.

In March 1995, when the company name was changed to Yahoo, another logo was introduced by the company which was briefly changed to a more elaborate test that includes an exclamation point to end. 

In August 1995, Yahoo changed its logo to a styled yellow jumping “Y” figurine on a blue circle while the “ Yahoo” wordmark is written below.

On January 1, 1996, a simplified version of the new logo was introduced that included the test “ Yahoo” and an exclamation mark, both in red with a slight shadow behind the test.

By May 2009, Yahoo changed its logo by recolouring it from red to purple and discarding the logo’s shadow and outline. During that time, the purple logo was accompanied by a new slogan “Its Y!ou”. A short variant of the logo, consisting of only the letter ”Y”, and an exclamation mark was also used.

In September 2009, Yahoo! Again changed its logo for a refreshed brand identity that is simpler and more flexible and looks back to the original, unusual 1996 logo. “ The text of the Yahoo logo is white place alongside a purple background, with the letter “y”  and the exclamation mark (!) of the logo reportedly set at an angle of 22.5 degrees. The logo was designed by the leading design firm Pentagram.

On August 7, 2013, Yahoo announced that the final version of the logo would be revealed on September 5, 2013. A “30 Days of Change” campaign was introduced during the period of revealing the new Yahoo logo, whereby variation of the logo was changed every day for the 30 days following the announcement. The new logo was changed along with the video that showed its digital construction, and Mayor published a personalized description of the design process on her Tumblr page.

On September 19, 2013, a new version of the “My Yahoo” personalized homepage was launched by Yahoo. The redesign enables users to tailor a homepage with widgets that access features such as calendars, email account, Flickr, and other Yahoo content and internet content. In late September 2013, the Mayor further explained at the conference that the change in the logo was the result of the feedback from both employees and external parties.
