About INMO 2024-25
INMO stands for Indian National Mathematical Olympiad and is the third stage of the HBCSE IMO program. The first Indian National Mathematical Olympiad apparently happened in 1989, and it has been held every year since then. Every year, approximately 35 students are chosen for the International Mathematical Olympiad Training Camp from the INMO review (IMOTC). The INMO examination has six extremely difficult questions on a 102-marks question paper. The INMO exam lasts four hours, and students are required to complete all of the problems during that period. The questions must be answered on the answer sheet and the rough sheet must be submitted after the test. When compared to the RMO test, the INMO exam is more complicated.
INMO (Indian National Mathematical Olympiad) qualifiers receive a certificate and an invitation to a training camp at HBCSE Mumbai. Participants that meet the NHBM criteria are qualified to participate in the IMO (International Mathematical Olympiad).
INMO 2024-25 Syllabus
The pre-degree college mathematics syllabus is covered by the INMO 2024-25 test. The INMO 2024-25 exam is conducted in an offline mode and lasts four hours. The questions in this exam mostly cover the mathematics syllabus from Class XI to Class XII, but the difference between a traditional mathematics exam and an INMO exam is that, although the syllabus is the same, the questions are much more complex, and all questions must be solved correctly; answers without explanation will not be approved.
The six questions were given equal weighting in the final grade. Except for calculus and statistics, the INMO syllabus covers all of the subjects. The exam becomes more complicated as you progress through the levels, from PRMO to RMO to INMO to IMO.
There are a few topics on which the majority of questions are asked, and students should concentrate on learning about these critical topics. The INMO 2024-25 exam will include questions from the following topics.
Arithmetic of Integers
Geometry
Quadratic Equations & Expressions
Trigonometry
Coordinate Geometry
System of Linear Equations
Permutations & Combinations
Inequalities
Elementary Combinatorics
Probability Theory
Number Theory
Finite Series & Complex Numbers
Elementary Graph Theory
Factorization of Polynomial

(Hons) Mathematics course in the Chennai Mathematical Institute and also for B. Stat or B. Math courses of the Indian Statistical Institute. Here the students would not have to attempt the written test which is otherwise mandatory and they will be directly called for the interview.
The students who qualify for the INMO are also eligible for other perks such as scholarships. Apart from being one more step closer to being selected to represent the country at the International Mathematics Olympiad, the students will have the opportunity to be a part of the free training program especially aimed at passionate students of mathematics. They are also eligible for the fellowship offered by Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana popularly known as KVPY.
5. What are the important topics and books for INMO?
Ans: Although INMO or the Indian National Mathematical Olympiad generally follows the concepts that come under the syllabus of class 11 and 12 mathematics, the difficulty level of the questions is comparatively higher than the ones students expect for their school or board exams. This calls for extra preparation and a proper idea of what books to refer to and what all topics to give focus on. While topics like Calculus and Statistics are not included, others like Algebra, Geometry, Number theory and Combinatorics, Graph Theory are given much importance for the exam.
NCERT books can be considered as one of the primary sources of reference and students are mostly advised to consult the books recommended for the IIT JEE preparations. For different topics and concepts such as Combinatorics, Geometry and Trigonometry, Number Theory, Polynomials, Functions several famous published books like Plane Trigonometry by SL Loney, Elementary Number Theory by David M Burton, Functional Equations: A Problem Solving Approach, Problem Solving Strategies by Arthur Engel, Challenge and Thrill of Pre-College Mathematics etc are encouraged to use for reference.
6. What is the exam format of INMO?
Ans: The international mathematics olympiad has around six stages and INMO or the Indian National Mathematical Olympiad is the third stage in it. The exam is eligible only for those who have cleared all the previous levels like PRMO and RMO and only 35 students from across the country are selected from INMO to participate in the next level. The questions included in the exam are usually based on the maths syllabus of classes 11 and 12.
Unlike the usual Olympiad exams, INMO only has 6 questions which the students need to answer although they might be extremely difficult mathematical problems. Students are given a total of 4 hours to complete the exam and the total marks out of which students will be evaluated is 102. Students must use the answer sheet to give answers and it is necessary for them to attach the rough sheet while submitting the answer sheet. For more information on INMO, you can visit Vedantu.
7. What are the benefits of solving sample papers for INMO?
Ans: INMO question papers are vital for the applicants while planning for the third phase of the HBCSE IMO assessment. Students who are participating in the INMO 2024-25 assessment are encouraged to engage in constant practise by solving the previous years' INMO papers. In case there is sufficient time left for the contender to get prepared for the test then they are encouraged to go through and practice the most recent ten years' question papers. Working out the question papers will adequately assist the applicants with understanding the difficulty level of the test and furthermore to find out the kind of questions the students need to expect for the exam.
Practising the sample papers of the INMO could be a distinct advantage for some applicants as it will direct them through the significant parts of the assessment. The questions that are posed in the INMO exam are somewhat further difficult than the last two phases. Although the questions are asked based on the key ideas, the candidates are relied upon to apply their scientific abilities and consistent thinking to solve the given problems. It is exceptionally fundamental that the competitors practice the sample papers to all the more likely comprehend the exam pattern, marking scheme, and also the difficulty level of the exam.
