Syllabus for the Class 12 NSO Science Exam

Just like the NSO exam for other classes, the exam syllabus for class 12 students is also divided into 3 sections. We shall now take a look at the syllabus for each of these sections individually.  It will also help students to note that the pattern of the paper is similar to class 11. 25 questions are asked in Section 1 and each question carries 1 mark. Section 2 has 5 questions worth 3 marks each. It is commonly called the Achievers Section because the questions asked here are quite conceptual. FAQs on NSO Science Important Questions Class 12

1. Is Optics important in Physics for the NSO exam?

Ans. Chapter 9 Ray Optics and Optical Instruments and Chapter 10 Wave Optics are the two chapters that are part of the Optics unit for class 12. In this unit, students are taught about the phenomena of reflection, refraction, and dispersion of light in detail. Using the basic laws of reflection and refraction, image formation by plane and spherical surfaces is studied extensively. Interference and diffraction are also explained alongside polarization. At least 2 to 3 questions are asked from this unit which is why the importance of Optics cannot be undermined from the examination point of view.

2. How do I prepare for the NSO Science exam with Vedantu?

3. What is the syllabus of Organic Chemistry for the NSO?

Ans. In Organic Chemistry, students begin by learning IUPAC nomenclature. They also learn about the applications of organometallic reactions, the preparation of various compounds, and their stereochemistry. In class 12 specifically, compounds like haloalkanes, haloarenes, alcohols, phenols, ethers, aldehydes, ketones, carboxylic acids, and amines are dealt with. Biomolecules like glucose, fructose, starch, and glycogen are also discussed. Students get to learn about the structure and the properties of various types of carbohydrates and proteins. All these topics need to be studied for the NSO exam of class 12.

4. What is the importance of the chapter on Evolution in class 12 Biology?

Ans. Evolutionary biology is defined as the study of the origin and history of all life on earth.
