Shape Tool in Ms Paint

Introduction

The shape tool has been used for creating geometric shapes in MS paint. The shape tool provides us with different shapes such as rectangles, triangles, stars, etc. The shape tool consists of 29 predefined shapes, 8 Basic shapes, 8 Polygon or Star shapes, 4 Arrows, 4 Callout shapes and 5 Symbols.

Steps to Open the Shape Tool in MS Paint 

Step 1: On the Window taskbar. Click on the magnifying glass icon and then in the text field at the top of the Search Window, write Paint.

Step 2: Click on Paint.

Step 3: The Paint will open after clicking on the Paint Option.

Step 4: In the Home tab → select any shape from the Shapes box.

Step 5: Select the required shape from the given shape tool. Here, we have selected a Rectangle shape.

Drawing a Freeform Line

In order to draw a free-form line we use a pencil tool.

Step 1: Select the Pencil tool.

Step 2: Click a colour in the Colour box.

Step 3: Drag the pointer in the picture to draw.

Drawing a Straight Line

To draw a straight line we use the line tool from the shape tool.

Steps to Draw a Straight Line

Step1. Select Line from the shape tool.

Step2. Select a line width to adjust the width of the line.

Step3. Select a colour depending on the need.

Step4. Drag the pointer in the picture to draw the line.

Step5. To draw a line using the background colour, right-click while you drag the pointer.

Step6. Different kinds of lines can be drawn such as horizontal line,vertical line,diagonal line by holding down shift while dragging.

Drawing an Ellipse or a Circle

In order to draw an ellipse or circle shape we select the ellipse shape from the shape tool. The Ellipse tool of Paint can be used to draw ellipses and circles.

Step1. Select the ellipse shape from the shape tool.

Step2. Draw the ellipse shape by simply  dragging the pointer diagonally.

Step3. Click on fill colour in the Colour box to fill the required colour.

Circle

Step1. Select the circle shape from the shape tool.

Step2. Draw the circle shape by simply holding down the shift while dragging.

Step3. Click on fill colour in the Colour box to fill the required colour.

Drawing a Polygon

In order to draw a polygon shape such as a rectangle, star, quadrilateral, square, or triangle. We have to select the polygon tool from the shape tool. Using the polygon tool one can draw any shape on any side.

Steps to Draw a Polygon

Step 1. Select the polygon tool from the shape tool.

Step 2. To draw a polygon, drag the pointer.

Step 3. Double-click when you have finished.

Step 4. Click on fill colour in the Colour box to fill the required colour.

Things to Remember

  • Pencil tool from ms paint  is used to draw free-form lines.

  • Line tool is used to draw straight lines.

  • The Ellipse tool is used to draw an ellipse and a circle depending on one's need.

  • The Polygon tool is used to draw polygons of any shape, size and colour in MS Paint Brush.
