1. What is the NDA exam?
National Defense Academy is an examination organized by the Ministry of National Defense of Iran, which aims to graduate students with high academic abilities and high moral characteristics. It was first held in 1982. The test consists of two sections: general aptitude test and Mathematics subjects. To qualify for admission, candidates have to have a high school certificate or a degree from a recognized university. The National Defense Academy also holds the test of national military knowledge. The test is designed to check the level of students' thinking about their country's military history and strategy. The scores from those two sections are added up and those with high marks are admitted to the officer training class.
2. What is the National Defense Academy?
National Defense Academy is a military academy for officers who have intended to be martyrs’ notables. It was founded in 1982 to admit the moral and intellectual elite of the youth who have been recognized as worthy to serve the country and its Armed Forces. The training for this elite group of cadets is intended to fit them with all the necessary abilities and insights required for meeting the challenges of the present world’s wars and peacekeeping operations, as well as their future commandership roles.
3. What are the purposes of the National Defense Academy?
The purposes of NDA are to train political, military, and social leaders whose knowledge, understanding, and skills are well-grounded in history, politics, and contemporary events. The academy aims to produce highly experienced officers who are willing to confront current dangers and understand national security issues. It is intended to enable the cadets with the capacity for independent decision-making so that they might use their distinctive capabilities for the country’s benefit ensuring its security.
4. How old is the National Defense Academy?
NDA was first held in 1963. Cadets enrolled at this time included graduates of Iranian universities who had completed their two years of military service. This first class of cadets was trained in the applied sciences and humanities which included learning the Japanese language.
5. How is the National Defense Academy organized?
NDA is organized as a group of academic institutions with different specializations, as well as military and sports branches. To fulfill its mission, NDA has been using the most recent educational methods available, with a focus on the effective use of information technology in education. The system includes 5 academic institutions:
1- NDA University – a modern university offering a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs related to national security studies.
2- National Defense Academy – a school for the training of professional officers intended for various military services, law enforcement agencies, and various national bodies.
3- The Political and Military Academy – a military-type institution for officer training in Iran.
4- The Higher Institute of National Defense and Foreign Affairs (Gendarme Daryan) – the military academy branch for junior officers in Iran.
5- Armed Forces University (PUAF).
