Plus, you need to explain specific topics like inundation canal, surface water, rooftop and rainwater harvesting.

Exam Pattern for the ICSE Board Class 10 Subject Geography

The paper of the class 10 Geography subject for the ICSE board is divided into two parts.

Part 01 is of 30 Marks, and all the questions are compulsory in this part, meaning no option to choose between the questions is available here.


Part two is of 50 marks, many questions will be asked in this section out of which, the students are required to solve only five questions. It means, in this section, the students will have the freedom of choosing between the questions.


Combining the marks of both the paper, that is to say, paper 01 and paper 02, the paper of the ICSE board class 10 geography consists of 80 marks in total. And the final 20 marks will be from the internal assessment. Therefore, students are required to perform well in the internal assessment as well.


Syllabus for the Class 10 Geography of the ICSE Board

The syllabus of the ICSE class 10 Geography is divided into two parts. Part 1 is of map work, and part two is “Geography of India”.


Part One is Further Divided Into Two Sections. The first section is Interpretation of Topographical Maps, in which, the topics such as Locating features with the help of four-figure or the six-figure grid reference, Definition of contour and contour identification of landforms marked by contours, Interpretation of colour tints and conventional symbols used on a topographical survey of India Map, Measuring distances and calculating area using the scale given therein etc.


The second section of the ICSE board Geography subject for class 10 is Maps of India. As the name suggests this section will cover the outline of the map of India. Topics such as Mountains, Peaks and Plateaus, Plains, deserts, rivers, water bodies, passes, Latitude and Longitudes, direction of winds, distribution of winds, distribution of minerals, soil distribution, cities, and population.

  • In Part Two a Total of 12 Topics Will be Covered. 

These topics are Location, Extent and physical features, Climate, Soil resources, Natural vegetation, Water resources, Water resources, Mineral and Energy Resources, Agriculture, manufacturing Industries, Transport, Water Management.
