Chapter 1: Silver Wedding by Manohar Shyam Joshi

Silver Wedding, written by Manohar Shyam Joshi is a story revolving around the family of Y.D Pant or Yashodhar Babu. The story throws light on the various opinion conflicts arising from the generation gap between Yashodhar Babu and his sons.

Yashodhara Babu was the eldest in the family and had an old-world outlook about most things in life. His sons, on the other hand, were stark opposite. They, belonging to the newer generation had a modern approach to everything. The story talks about a day in their lives that happens to be Yashodhara Babu’s silver wedding anniversary. A particular incident of that day unveils the unceasing difference in thinking between the two generations. NCERT book class 12 Hindi Vitan has some contextual questions at the end of the chapter.

Chapter 2: Joojh by Anand Yadav

Joojh is a part of an originally Marathi novel named ‘Jhobi' written by Dr. Anand Yadav and translated to Hindi by Keshav Pratham Veer. This is a story about the author who stays with his parents in a village. He has a great interest in studying, while his father had a completely different take on this. His father was a farmer and was of the notion that going to school was a waste of time. He wanted his son to rather help him in farming.

The author had to give up school and join his father’s occupation. He later discusses with his mother his keenness in going to school. Together, they decide to approach Dattaji Rao and request him to convince Dada (author’s father) to allow him to pursue education.

Chapter 3: Ateet Mein Dabe Paav by Om Thanvi

Chapter 3 in Vitan Class 12 is named Ateet Mein Dabe Paav. In this chapter, the author talks about the ancient civilization Mohenjodaro and reveals his opinion on it. He explains how the sites still hint at the presence of life.

The author later discovers how the present society might have been inspired by the Mohenjodaro civilization. The author also mentions the river Sindhu, Mesopotamia, Bodh Stupa, Jal Kund (The Great Bath), etc. The settlement patterns, house structure, idols, weapons, and so on are detailed by the author in the 3rd chapter. There are a total of 8 questions at the end of Chapter 3 in NCERT book class 12 Hindi Vitan.

Chapter 4: Diary Ke Panne by Anne Frank

Diary ke Panne is an excerpt drawn from 'The Diary of a Young Girl' written by Anne Frank. She addressed the letters to herself and named her 'Kitty'. The diary was written while Anne and her family were hiding for two years to save themselves from the Nazi dictatorship.

Chapter 4 of the Hindi Class 12 Vitan book opens with the scribbles written on July 8 (Wednesday). The chapter proceeds to reveal how Anne and her family find a place in secret place to reside in. She shares how they used to spend their days in a secret place, isolated from the outside world.
