The role of decomposers is as follows:
They decompose bodies of dead animals and plants and therefore act as a soil cleansing agent of the environment.
They make the soil fertile by releasing nutrients into the soil. These nutrients are produced when they decompose dead animals and plants.
They maintain the level of nutrients by returning the nutrients to the nutrient pool.
They provide space for new life to settle in the environment by decomposing dead plants and animals.
5. Explain why damage to the ozone layer is a topic of concern. What should one do to limit this damage?
The damage to the ozone layer is a topic of concern because if the ozone layer will be depleted in the atmosphere then the harmful ultraviolet radiation from the sun will reach the earth. These radiations then will cause skin cancer in animals and human beings and it will also harm the plants. This depletion is because of using chemicals like CFCs which are used in refrigerators and extinguishers. To stop further depletion, in 1987, UNEP had succeeded in developing a pact to freeze CFC production at 1986 levels.
